Spirituality and Mental Health: Their Impact on Well-being

Our spiritual, physical and mental health are like three peas in a pod. They all play a key part in keeping our bodies functional and healthy. But spirituality and mental health will be a major focus in this blog.

Spirituality has always served as an anchor for many humans for ages. It gives people a purpose, a deeper understanding of life, and hope.

Studies have also shown that one’s spirituality can have a positive effect on their mental health. To fully understand their connection, let me explain what spirituality is all about.

What Is Spirituality?

I, Guru Deseye Subai define Spirituality as the connection with something of greater power and importance. It is marked by its ability to explain complex facts about our universe, life and death, the afterlife, and our relationship with our environment.

Many people tend to confuse spirituality for religion but they are not the same, they are similar but not the same. Religion cannot exist without spirituality, however, spirituality exists without religion.

People use spirituality to give meaning to their lives and the world around us, this is why certain people describe spirituality as a human trait. Because so many people embark on a spiritual journey, both knowingly and unknowingly as we all possess an innate desire to understand this world.

Some of the methods or practices people indulge in when getting into spirituality are known to have a direct effect on their mental health. Practices like meditation, journaling, reading, etc.

Spirituality And Mental Health

These two are aspects of our lives that are beautifully intertwined. Mental health is the combination of our emotional, social, and psychological well-being. This is why when our mental health is compromised, it is due to a failing in one or all of these aspects.

Our mental health controls how we make decisions, how we relate with people and our environment, and how we process our experiences and face challenges. Spirituality also plays its part in these aspects of life and that is why it can have quite an effect on our mental health.

Here are a few ways spirituality can help with your mental health :

  • Provides you with a sense of purpose, direction and meaning.
  • Fills you with the peace and wisdom required to navigate life.
  • Gives you guidelines to help improve your relationship with people and yourself
  • Pushes you to become a better, more rounded version of yourself
  • Can provide you with a community to support you

So it is safe to say that spirituality and mental health are two sides of the same coin. One with the power to repair and improve the other. Although many people do not fully grasp the concept and meaning of spirituality, they find themselves gravitating towards it obliviously.

Our mental health is a very crucial facet of our well-being, and spirituality is one of the ways we can keep it uncompromised and intact.

  1. I was just as captivated by your creations as I was. The drawing you’ve created is stunning, and the writing you’ve done is sophisticated. However, your remarks indicate that you are worried about the possibility of engaging in something that may be seen as dubious. I’ll be able to resolve this quickly.
